Paris of the East
With a four day weekend approaching, it was time to venture out… Shanghai here we come!
We’ve been told that this booming metropolis is evolving at a pace so unmatched by any other Chinese city. It’s true, this city is covered with sweeping skyscrapers, modern buildings and in no time there will be more high rises popping up as we speak.
Shanghai has been referred to as ‘Paris of the East’ or ‘The Whore of the Orient’, but we didn’t experience this side of Shanghai (thankfully). The city has a lot of European style buildings, along with the beautiful French concession area which is a great area to explore. They say there are still about 20,000 French people living here, although with a population of 14 million plus, it’s a drop in the bucket.
Shanghai is definitely what you call ‘modern China’. The place is paved with many great food places, cafes, glistening department stores inviting the stylish elite, bars, and fashionistas walking the streets.
It felt like we could have been anywhere in the world.
